KC Luxury Sues NDLEA Over Continued Detention

Lagos socialite and social media influencer Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known as KC Luxury, has filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit against the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Federal High Court in Lagos, seeking ₦190 million in damages over his arrest and continued detention.

In the suit filed through his lawyer, Abdulakeem Labi-Lawal (SAN), KC Luxury is asking the court to declare his detention unconstitutional and a violation of his right to personal liberty.

He is also seeking an order for his immediate release or bail on favourable terms pending any formal criminal charges, as well as compensation for alleged unlawful arrest and detention, invasion of privacy, and the circulation of his photographs and videos while in custody.

KC Luxury was arrested by NDLEA operatives on August 13, 2026, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos while preparing to board a business-class flight to Paris.

The agency linked his arrest to the seizure of 184.5kg of cocaine from a courier company in Lagos, valued at about ₦39 billion and allegedly connected to an international drug trafficking network using Nigeria as a transit point for shipments to the United Kingdom, Europe, and Asia.

NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa had described KC Luxury as a “cartel leader” who did not surrender voluntarily but was apprehended at the boarding gate as he attempted to flee the country.

The agency also reported recovering foreign currencies, jewellery, and other items linked to the investigation, and conducted searches related to the case.

In an affidavit supporting the suit, sworn by his father Eric Afolabi, the family alleged that KC Luxury had spent about 14 days in NDLEA custody without being informed of the specific offence for which he was held or formally charged before a court.

They further claimed that operatives searched his residence at Movamo Court, Banana Island, Lagos, without a search warrant and found nothing incriminating.

Justice Friday Ogazi declined to grant the application on an ex parte basis and ordered that the NDLEA be put on notice.

The judge directed the agency to produce KC Luxury in court at the next hearing, serve the relevant documents within four working days, and file its response within five days of service.

The matter was adjourned to September 9, 2026, for hearing of the substantive application. The allegations in the suit have not yet been determined by the court.
