Several tricycles loaded with waste have been abandoned on major streets within the Kumasi Metropolis and parts of the Ashanti Region for several days, worsening sanitation conditions in the affected areas.
The situation has been linked to frequent breakdowns of machinery at the Oti Landfill Site, which have disrupted normal waste processing operations at the facility.
As a result, the landfill site has been unable to handle incoming volumes of waste, leaving tricycle operators with no option but to park their loaded vehicles on streets and at various intersections.
The development has raised concerns among residents and business owners, who say the abandoned waste-laden tricycles are creating environmental hazards and posing serious public health risks.
A resident, Kojo Bonsu, said the situation is negatively affecting commercial activities and creating sanitation challenges in the community.
He is therefore calling on the relevant authorities to urgently intervene and resolve the problem to restore normal waste management operations.
