2026 FIFA World Cup: Asamoah Gyan backs Black Stars ahead of Mundial

Ghana’s all-time leading scorer and Africa’s highest scorer in FIFA World Cup history, Asamoah Gyan believes the Black Stars has what it takes to perform well at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He averts that, the mood in the country is hopeful, even as expectations continue to rise on the team.

The West African Country is making their fifth appearance at football’s biggest stage with sticks very high for the team, following their poor outing at the last World Cup tournament. With few days to kickoff the global showpiece, Gyan backs the team to do well.

“Ghanaians are optimistic, but there is pressure back home.”

“Let’s see what happens, but I hope all the African teams will do well, and I wish them well.”

Ghana have been drawn in a competitive Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.

They will begin their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field, before facing England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium, and concluding their group stage fixtures against Croatia on June 27.

The Black Stars will be aiming to return to the knockout stage for the first time since their memorable quarter-final run at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. With experience, talent, and renewed belief within the camp, hopes are high that Ghana can finally break their recent group-stage struggles and make a strong impact at the 2026 tournament.
