Accra, Jan 11, GNA – The much-anticipated Armwrestling Supermatch in Accra lived its hype and billing with firing intensity erupting the Accra Sports Stadium as Ghana’s best pullers clashed to battle for supremacy.

The sweep contest was a true test of strength, skill, and mental toughness, with top Armwrestlers who in 2025 had dominated the continent or won world championship medals facing off each other.

It was an electrifying atmosphere as the matches began, with each competitor eyeing the win.

Immigration Officer Godwin Sackey, aka “Fadona”, was all smiles, relying on his lightning-fast reflexes to take down his opponent, fast improving Joshua Yeboah in a 4-1 sweep win.

Daniel Acquah of Prisons, the towering giant in the 60kg category with massive guns, despite the showmanship, was focused on his battles thus unleashing his fury, demolishing his rival and compatriot Henry Otoo also of Ghana Prisons Service.

Policewoman and 2024 World Champion, Grace Minta, a seasoned pro, coming from a break faced tough opponent Linda Akoma, but her experience and skill had her looking like a dark horse ending the battle in a 2-0 sweep win.

The competition was neck and neck, with each match going down to the wire. World Silver medallist and immigration officer, Blessed Abeka Nunoo could not stand the wrath of the 2025 Africa’s best female puller Mabel Yeboah of Ghana Prisons Service. Mabel’s reflexes proved too much for Blessed as she won stylishly in a 2-1 sweep contest.

Haruna Tahiru’s brute strength and experience paid off, securing him a thrilling win over Captain Edward Yamoah Asamoah aka “Royal” in a keenly contest while Afia Kumah moved up in weight to dethrone Florence Boakye in the women heavyweight contest.

The crowd went wild as the battles intensified, cheering and chanting for their favourite pullers and erupted as winners were announced whilst the Armwrestlers exchanged hearty congratulations.

The Armwrestling Supermatch face-offs was witnessed by top dignitaries including Dr. Fred Awaah, Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority, Lawyer Richard Akpokavie, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Mr. Bawa Fuseini, Mr. Kamal Sulley, Mr. Mawuko Afadzinu, Md. Rafatu Inusah, all Presidents of Athletics, Rowing, Table Tennis and Rugby respectively.

Other dignitaries included Mr. Jesse Agyepong, Mr. Godfrey Amarteyfio, Hon. Joseph Cudjoe, Mr. Edwin Amankwah, Mr. Percy Amoah, all board members of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation.

The Armwrestling Supermatch was a slam dunk success, showcasing Ghana’s best in the sport with Godwin Sackey buzzing about a face-off challenge with Haruna in a future battle.
