Revised admission rates affect entry to museums, monuments, heritage sites and historical attractionsKenyans and foreign visitors wishing to visit museums and heritage sites across the country will effective today, May 7, pay higher entry fees, the National Museums of Kenya has announced.
The revised charges, introduced under Legal Notice No. 79 of 2025 through the National Museums and Heritage (Admissions Fees) Regulations, 2025, affect entry to museums, monuments, heritage sites and historical attractions managed by National Museums of Kenya.
The new pricing structure marks a significant shift in how visitors are charged, with residents from the rest of Africa and foreigners outside the continent now required to pay exclusively in US dollars instead of Kenya shillings in most facilities.
Under the new rates, adult Kenyan and East African citizens visiting the Nairobi National Museum will now pay Sh350, up from Sh200, while children will pay Sh200 from the previous Sh100.
Residents from the rest of Africa will pay $9 (about Sh1,163) for adults and $6 (Sh775) for children, replacing the previous East African resident charges of Sh600 and Sh400 respectively.
Foreign visitors from outside Africa will now pay $18 (Sh2,326) for adults compared to the previous Sh1,200, while children will pay $9 (Sh1,163), up from Sh600.
At Snake Park, Kenyan adults will now pay Sh350 from Sh200, while children’s charges rise from Sh100 to Sh200.
Residents from the rest of Africa will pay $6 (Sh775) for adults and $3 (Sh388) for children, while foreign visitors outside Africa will pay $18 (Sh2,326) for adults and $9 (Sh1,163) for children.
The combined Nairobi National Museum and Snake Park ticket has also been revised sharply upward.
Kenyan adults will now pay Sh600 from Sh300, while children will pay Sh300 from Sh150.
Visitors from the rest of Africa will pay $15 (Sh1,938) for adults and $10 (Sh1,292) for children.
Foreigners outside Africa will pay $25 (Sh3,230) for adults, up from the previous Sh1,500, while children will pay $15 (Sh1,938) from the previous Sh1,000.
Entry to the Nairobi Gallery has doubled for Kenyan adults from Sh150 to Sh300, while children will now pay Sh200 from Sh100.
Foreign visitors outside Africa will be charged $14 (Sh1,809) for adults and $7 (Sh904) for children compared to the previous Sh1,000 and Sh500 respectively.
The Karen Blixen Museum and Fort Jesus Museum have also recorded substantial increases.
Kenyan adults visiting the two attractions will now pay Sh550, up from between Sh200 and Sh400 under the old structure, while children will pay Sh300.
Residents from the rest of Africa will pay $9 (Sh1,163) for adults and $6 (Sh775) for children.
Foreign visitors outside Africa will pay $17 (Sh2,196) for adults and $8 (Sh1,034) for children.
The newly introduced combined ticket for Fort Jesus Museum and Butterfly House will cost Kenyan adults Sh650 and children Sh400.
Residents from the rest of Africa will pay $12 (Sh1,550) for adults and $7 (Sh904) for children, while foreigners outside Africa will pay $19 (Sh2,455) for adults and $9 (Sh1,163) for children.
A cluster of regional museums and heritage attractions, including Meru Museum, Malindi Museum, Kabarnet Museum, Kapenguria Museum, Gede Ruins, Butterfly House, Mnarani Ruins, Kariandusi, Olorgesailie, Koobi Fora, Takwa Ruins and Jomo Kenyatta houses in Maralal, Lodwar and Lokitaung, have also seen revised charges.
Kenyan adults and EAC citizens visiting the sites will now pay Sh200 from the previous Sh100 in most facilities, while children’s charges double from Sh50 to Sh100.
Residents from the rest of Africa will pay $6 (Sh775) for adults and $3 (Sh388) for children.
Foreigners outside Africa will pay $8 (Sh1,034) for adults and $4 (Sh517) for children.
For the Lamu heritage package covering Lamu Fort, Lamu Museum, Swahili House and the German Post Office, Kenyan adults and their EAC counterparts will now pay Sh750, up from Sh375, while children will pay Sh400 from Sh180.
Residents from the rest of Africa will pay $24 (Sh3,101) for adults and $12 (Sh1,550) for children.
Foreign visitors outside Africa will pay $40 (Sh5,168) for adults, up from the previous Sh3,000, while children will pay $16 (Sh2,067) from Sh1,500.
Meanwhile, smaller heritage attractions, including Tambach, Kakapel, Pate, Nyeri, Shimoni, Songhor, Fort Ternan and Siyu Fort will now charge Kenyan and EAC adults Sh100 and children Sh50.
Residents from the rest of Africa will pay $3 (Sh388) for adults and $2 (Sh258) for children, while foreigners outside Africa will also pay $4 (Sh517) and $2 (Sh258), respectively.
The revised fees took effect immediately on May 7, 2026.
