As part of the efforts to create employment for the youth in the country, particularly in her constituency, and to boost tourism development in the country to augment the efforts of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), the Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has met with investors from the United States of America.
The meeting also discussed tourism opportunities across Jomoro, the Western Region, and Ghana at large.
The Jomoro Constituency can boast of significant tourism potential, centred around its unique cultural heritage, extensive coastline, and rich wetland ecosystems.
The Ankasa National Park is nestled in the lush Ankasa Conservation Area, which is a remarkable two-in-one forest reserve spanning approximately 509 square kilometres and incorporating the former Nini-Suhien National Park.
Nzulezo is a village on stilts with over 500 years of history situated on the serene waters of Amansuri Lake.
It is the home to about 450 residents, predominantly farmers; the community lives in harmony with its delicate watery environment.
Standing proudly along the shores of Benyin in the constituency is Fort Apollonia, which holds the distinction of being the last English fort constructed on the Gold Coast.
Conceived as an integrated energy generation project to accelerate the development of the Tano basin, the Osagyefo Barge is a dual-fired power-generating unit which can operate on both diesel and natural gas.
It was commissioned in 1999 under the government of late former President Jerry John Rawlings to address power shortages in the country.
It was later moved to the present base at Effasu-Mangyea in the Jomoro District in March 2007 during the presidency of John Agyekum Kufuor.
Jomoro has a 50-kilometre stretch of clean sandy beaches from Ekabaku to Newtown. Most of the beaches have clean white sands, laced with rows of coconut trees mysteriously spared by the onslaught of the Cape Saint Paul wilt disease, which ravaged most of the coconut crop along Ghana’s coastal belt.
It is for the development of these and many other developmental sites that the MP, who is also the Deputy Transport Minister, met the USA investors.
Madam Affo-Toffey said, “I had the honour of receiving investors from the United States of America to discuss tourism opportunities across Jomoro, the Western Region, and Ghana at large.”
She said, “As a representative of the people, I remain committed to initiatives that create jobs, uplift communities, and advance national development.”
“We look forward to translating these discussions into tangible investments for the benefit of our people and Ghana,” she added.
