Nollywood actress, Yvonne Jegede, has opined that marriage is overrated, while also saying she is happy for people who find joy in it.

Naija News reports that in an interview with Punch,  she explained that her view comes from what she has seen around her and her personal experiences. According to her, many women face pressure and are expected to carry more responsibility in marriage, and she feels the balance is often not equal in many cases.

She noted that there are still people who have good and happy marriages, but from her own environment, she does not see marriage as something that always works well for women. She said this is why her opinion has remained the same over time.

The mother of one added that her understanding of marriage is shaped by what she has gone through and what she observes in society. She also said she respects people who are happy in their marriages and does not deny their experiences, even though her own view is different.

She said: “I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, marriage is overrated. For people who have found happiness in marriage, I’m genuinely happy for them. But from my perspective and within my environment, marriage doesn’t always favour women.”
