The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has begun removing expired dealer plates from vehicles as part of an ongoing enforcement exercise to ensure compliance with road traffic regulations.
Director of Corporate Affairs at the DVLA, Stephen Attuh, in an interview with Citi News on Wednesday, March 25, explained that officers positioned at key points are identifying vehicles operating with expired or invalid DV plates.
He noted that drivers found in breach are issued temporary clearance slips, with support from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service, allowing them to drive home or proceed to the nearest DVLA office to regularise their documentation.
Stephen Attuh also disclosed that some vehicles were found using forged DV plates during the operation, leading to the arrest of some suspects.
He stressed that, although the current phase of the exercise focuses on removing expired plates and guiding drivers to comply, stricter law enforcement measures will follow for those who fail to adhere to the regulations.
