Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Film Authority, James Gardiner, has revealed that the government has allocated 20 million Ghana Cedis to the Film Development Fund.

The fund, he stated, is expected to be operationalised in the second quarter of 2026.

According to him, the initiative marks a significant step toward repositioning Ghana’s film industry and unlocking its full economic and creative potential.

He described the fund as a strategic tool designed to stimulate growth across the entire film value chain, with a strong focus on supporting production.

Speaking at the Filmmakers Summit held as part of the Ashanti Festival ’26 in Kumasi, on Tuesday, March 17, the deputy CEO emphasised that the fund will go beyond production, and prioritise capacity building whilst enhancing distribution and improving access to markets.

“The Ministry of Finance has allocated 20 million to the film development fund, which is scheduled to be operationalised in the second quarter of 2026.”
