The Minority in Parliament is urging cocoa farmers in the Ashanti Region to lead a nationwide naked demonstration if the government fails to restore the previous cocoa price.

The call was made during a tour of cocoa farming communities in the region by the Minority group led by Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh.

The tour, which took place on Monday, March 16, 2026, aimed to gather first-hand information on the challenges facing cocoa farmers.

At a stop in the Bosome Freho District, Offinso South MP Isaac Yaw Opoku expressed disappointment with the government’s decision to reduce cocoa prices.

Hon Opoku attributed the price cut to the government’s lack of understanding of cocoa issues.

“Government has not only reduced the price, there is also a shortage of sacks, even buyers are rejecting cocoa beans – a strange situation in the history of the cocoa sector,” he said.

The Minority group has pledged to join any legitimate protest led by cocoa farmers to demand better prices.

Frank Annoh-Dompreh emphasised the importance of farmers holding the government accountable and calling for the restoration of the previous price.

“The current price will cripple the cocoa farmers,” Hon Dompreh warned. He noted that he will personally join the naked demonstration if the government fails to listen to the farmers’ cry.

The Minority’s call has sparked debate on the government’s handling of the cocoa sector.

The National Democratic Congress government had earlier claimed the price reduction was due to inherited debt, but Hon Opoku dismissed this as “holding no water”.

“This same government increased the price when the same debt was there, so why the reduction now?” he asked.
