Accra, Jan. 5, GNA – The late Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Alhaji Naser Mahama Toure, was on Monday buried at the Medina Cemetery after funeral prayers at the Ghana Central Mosque.

The burial was conducted in accordance with Islamic tradition, with mourners forming rows to receive the body for the final Janazah prayer.

The prayer was led by Shaikh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu, the National Chief Imam, and attended by family members, political associates, religious leaders and constituents.

Tributes have continued to pour in from colleagues of the late lawmaker within the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr Anthony Nukpenu, NDC Greater Accra Regional Organiser, expressed sorrow over the passing, describing the late MP as a gentleman who entered politics with sincerity and commitment.

“He came to politics with a genuine heart, a very committed way of doing things and helping the society. For the years he has been in parliament, he really lived up to the expectations of the people and the party,” he said.

Mr Nukpenu recalled that the late MP first entered Parliament in 2012 after winning the Ayawaso East seat.

“He has been so good to the region and to the party contributing very well to helping society, helping the people,” he said, and noted that the deceased also served as caucus chairman for the Eastern Region, where he was committed to unity and effective communication.

In a separate condolence message, Mr Ernest Henry Norgbey, Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, described his late colleague as calm and wise.

“Honourable Naser was such a fine gentleman. Very calm, and every time he spoke, he would use his wisdom. He was also keen on divergent opinions,” he said.

Mr Norgbey said that the late MP remained active in parliamentary work until his death.

“He was there at committee level, he was there at plenary, he gave his speech. He participated in every activity of the house.

“May God guide us and give us wisdom as we go into another realm of getting a successor,” he said.

The death of Alhaji Naser Mahama Toure has created a vacancy in the Ayawaso East constituency, with parliamentary procedures to begin in due course.

The lawmaker, serving his fourth term, reportedly passed away at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on last Sunday.

During his tenure, he was noted for his work on technical committees and his interest in infrastructure and energy development.

At the time of his death, he was Vice Chairman of the Energy Committee, and a Member of the Roads and Transport Committee, the House Committee, and the Private Members’ Bills and Motions Committee.
