Tim Wanyonyi Declares Himself Edwin Sifuna’s General in Bungoma, Sends Strong Message Ahead of 2027

Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi has reaffirmed his commitment to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and the Linda Mwananchi Movement, declaring himself the general leading the political outfit’s activities in Bungoma County.

Wanyonyi made the declaration while addressing the movement’s growing political influence in Western Kenya, signalling his determination to strengthen Sifuna’s support base ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“In Bungoma, I am Edwin Sifuna’s general, leading the Linda Mwananchi army,” Wanyonyi declared.

His remarks underline the growing political partnership between the two leaders, who have increasingly worked together as they seek to challenge the existing political establishment.

Wanyonyi, who is eyeing the Bungoma gubernatorial seat in 2027, formally joined the Linda Mwananchi Movement on October 30 during the launch of its headquarters in Nairobi.

His decision was viewed as a significant boost for Sifuna, particularly because Wanyonyi enjoys considerable political influence in Bungoma and has been positioning himself as a serious contender for the county’s top seat.

The legislator has also been rallying residents to register as voters, arguing that a strong voter population would give Western Kenya greater bargaining power in national politics.

His political alignment with Sifuna has attracted attention because his brother, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, remains associated with President William Ruto’s political camp.

Meanwhile, Wanyonyi’s latest declaration could strengthen Linda Mwananchi’s grassroots mobilisation efforts as the movement seeks to establish itself across the country.

The Bungoma gubernatorial contest is also expected to attract considerable attention, with other political figures, including Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, positioning themselves for the 2027 race.

Wanyonyi’s declaration signals that the political battle in Bungoma could become closely intertwined with Sifuna’s national ambitions.
