Gov’t imposes curfew on Hamile
The government has imposed a daily curfew on Hamile Township and nearby communities in the Lambussie District of the Upper West Region in response to security concerns in the area.
The restriction, which takes immediate effect, requires residents to remain indoors between 6 p.m. and 5 a.m. each day.
In a statement, the Ministry of the Interior explained that the curfew was imposed on the advice of the National Security Council and through an executive instrument.
The government has also prohibited the possession of firearms, ammunition, and other offensive weapons within Hamile and its surrounding communities.
The Ministry warned that individuals found violating the ban would be arrested and prosecuted.
The measures come amid heightened security concerns in the area following an explosion at Hamile on Tuesday.
The blast, which reportedly involved a motor tricycle suspected to be carrying dynamite, claimed the life of a Ghana Immigration Service officer and left another critically injured.
The government has called on traditional authorities, opinion leaders, young people and other residents to remain calm and exercise restraint as efforts are made to address the security situation.
It further urged community members to pursue their concerns through peaceful and lawful channels rather than resorting to violence.
