Forgive Me and Accept Me as One of Your Own” — Owusu Bempah Apologises to President Mahama and NDC

Owusu Bempah has expressed regret over his previous attacks on President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC, publicly asking for forgiveness after admitting that his criticism sometimes crossed the boundaries of fair political debate.

During an interview on Angel FM, the political commentator revisited his statements about Mahama between 2020 and the 2024 elections. He conceded that he often used harsh language and made personal remarks against the president, largely because of partisan feelings.

Bempah said he had reconsidered his position after observing Mahama’s administration and was impressed by what he described as improvements in leadership, government coordination and policy direction. He even described the current administration as unlike any he had witnessed in Ghana since independence.

He stressed that he is not an official member or representative of either the New Patriotic Party or the NDC, but rather a private citizen who comments on political issues.

He further encouraged political commentators to prioritise constructive criticism instead of spreading misinformation or engaging in personal attacks. According to him, admitting past mistakes demonstrates responsibility rather than weakness.

Bempah insisted that his apology was based on personal conviction, not political convenience. While some people have welcomed his remarks, others have questioned whether his change of attitude will be permanent.

The apology has renewed conversations about accountability and the role of political commentators in promoting responsible public debate.
