Raila Odinga International Stadium: Govt reveals how ticketing and security will be tested
Kenya will use the grand official opening of the Raila Odinga International Stadium at Talanta Sports City to comprehensively test its ticketing system ahead of AFCON PAMOJA 2027, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has disclosed.
The high-profile friendly pitting German giants Bayern Munich against Dutch powerhouse Ajax Amsterdam, scheduled for January 5, 2027, has been earmarked as a major dress rehearsal for the continental showpiece, with ticketing, security, transport and broadcasting systems set to be put under scrutiny.
In a statement on Monday, November 2, 2026, Mvurya made the revelation following a meeting with the newly elected CAF General Secretary Samson Adamu, who had just completed an inspection tour of the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, and the Raila Odinga International Stadium.
“I was honored to host the CAF General Secretary, Mr. Samson Adamu, following his inspection of Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, and the Raila Odinga International Stadium at Talanta Sports City. He expressed satisfaction with the progress made in Kenya’s preparations for AFCON PAMOJA 2027,” Mvurya stated.
According to the CS, the Bayern Munich vs Ajax fixture will go beyond a football spectacle, serving as a technical audit to test Kenya’s readiness to host Africa’s biggest football tournament.
“The grand official opening of the Raila Odinga International Stadium, featuring a clash between German giants Bayern Munich and Dutch powerhouse Ajax, will serve as a major dress rehearsal for AFCON PAMOJA 2027, testing our infrastructure and capacity to deliver a seamless experience for teams and fans,” he said.
Mvurya revealed that Kenya and CAF have agreed that their technical teams will work jointly to test all critical match-day operations during the friendly, with a special focus on ticketing to avoid the chaos that has marred past international fixtures in the country.
“We agreed that our technical teams will work jointly with CAF to comprehensively test ticketing, security, transport, evacuation, immigration and broadcasting systems, identifying and addressing gaps ahead of the tournament,” Mvurya added.
He assured that through a Whole-of-Government Approach, the government is accelerating outstanding works at both Kasarani and Talanta to ensure Kenya delivers a secure and world-class tournament.
AFCON PAMOJA 2027 will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, with Kenya expected to host key matches, including the opening ceremony.
