EXPOSED: DCI Reveals Why Former KTN Presenter Will Stay in Jail for 10 Days After Mother’s Murder

Detectives have revealed why they want actress and former KTN presenter Regina Re and three of her relatives to remain in police custody for 10 days as investigations continue into the murder of her 86-year-old mother, Dorita Lasinder Macharia, in Loresho, Nairobi.

According to court records, officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) initially requested 15 days to hold the four suspects at Gigiri Police Station while gathering evidence. The suspects are Regina Wambui Macharia Gitao, Thandie Malaika Wanjiku Gitao, Immanuel Walgwe Munyeki, and Alton Jimmy Macharia.

Investigating officer Police Constable David Njoroge told the court that Dorita was found dead inside her Loresho Ridge Estate home on the night of October 30, 2026. She had a deep wound on the left side of her neck.

Detectives said initial investigations pointed to a disagreement between Dorita and her granddaughter, Thandie, after the elderly woman allegedly found her with her boyfriend, Alton, in a compromising situation inside her bedroom.

Dorita reportedly became angry, ordered her granddaughter to leave, and demanded that she return the room keys. She also asked several friends who were allegedly inside the house to leave. She later called her son, Jimmy, and asked him to help remove Thandie from the family home.

Although Thandie initially left, detectives told the court that she later returned and spent about one hour inside the house with her grandmother.

Dorita was subsequently found lying in a pool of blood, while her granddaughter allegedly ran outside shouting that she was bleeding.

Police told the court they needed more time to examine CCTV footage, collect fingerprints, conduct forensic tests, obtain phone records, and question key witnesses.

They also want a government pathologist to examine the body and establish further details about the cause of death.

Detectives further argued that releasing the suspects could interfere with investigations and efforts to identify other possible accomplices who remain at large.

The court granted police 10 days to detain the four relatives as investigations continue.

The suspects remain under investigation and have not been convicted of murder.
