Details Emerge as Kalonzo and Gachagua Plan Fresh Wamunyoro Meeting Ahead of 2027 Elections

Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua are expected to hold another meeting at Wamunyoro as opposition leaders continue efforts to strengthen unity ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The planned meeting comes barely a week after Gachagua hosted Kalonzo and a team of his allies at his Wamunyoro residence. The earlier engagement followed Gachagua’s return from the United States, where he had spent nearly two months meeting Kenyans in different states.

The latest talks are expected to build on discussions held during their previous meeting, as leaders within the opposition explore ways of working together and developing a common political strategy ahead of the next general election.

According to sources who attended the previous meeting, one of the key issues discussed was the timing of the announcement of the opposition’s presidential flagbearer.

The two sides reportedly agreed that the candidate would be announced early next year, a decision that could give opposition leaders more time to consult their allies and establish a common position on the presidential contest.

The question of who will carry the opposition’s presidential ticket is likely to remain a major issue as different leaders seek to consolidate their political influence and attract support from across the country.

Kalonzo and Gachagua’s continued engagements could therefore play an important role in shaping the opposition’s next steps, particularly as discussions on coalition-building and leadership gain momentum.

However, the outcome of the planned meeting and the identity of the eventual presidential candidate remain unclear. The coming months are expected to be crucial as opposition leaders continue consultations over their political future and preparations for the 2027 polls.
