Gachagua Launches Fresh Attack on Ruto Over Milk Shortage, KCC and High Cost of Livestock Feeds
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a fresh attack on President William Ruto’s administration, accusing it of undermining Kenya’s dairy industry through poor policies, rising livestock feed prices and challenges facing milk farmers.
Speaking during a political gathering attended by his supporters, Gachagua criticised the government’s handling of the agricultural sector, arguing that dairy farmers were struggling despite the importance of the industry to thousands of Kenyan households.
In his remarks, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader accused the government of destroying the country’s dairy farming sector and weakening the operations of the Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC).
Gachagua also questioned the rising cost of animal feeds, saying the high prices had made it increasingly difficult for farmers to maintain dairy production and earn a decent income from their investments.
He claimed that milk had become increasingly difficult to access, blaming the situation on what he described as poor management of the country’s agricultural sector.
The former Deputy President further took issue with the government’s messaging to young people, suggesting that leaders were failing to provide meaningful solutions to unemployment and economic challenges facing the youth.
He accused the administration of destroying dairy farming, undermining KCC, increasing the cost of livestock feeds and failing to address the challenges facing young people.
His remarks appeared to form part of his wider criticism of the Ruto administration, which he has repeatedly accused of failing to deliver on its promises to Kenyans.
Agriculture remains an important source of income and employment in Kenya, particularly in rural communities where thousands of households depend on dairy farming for their livelihoods.
The cost of animal feeds, access to reliable milk markets and the prices farmers receive for their produce remain important concerns within the agricultural sector.
The former Deputy President has been positioning himself as one of the leading critics of Ruto’s administration while seeking to strengthen his political influence across different parts of the country.
His criticism of the government’s agricultural policies is likely to add another dimension to the growing political debate over the cost of living, economic management and the promises made to ordinary Kenyans.
