Source Reveals Total Cost of Hosting The Friendly Match Between Bayern vs Ajax & Source of The Funds
The total cost of hosting the high-profile friendly match between Bayern Munich and Ajax on January 5th, 2027, has finally been revealed.
According to a news broadcast by KTN television on Thursday, 29th, October 2026, the government plans to spend KSh 1 Billion to bring the two European giants to Kenya for the opening of the Raila Odinga International Stadium.
According to the breakdown seen by KTN News, German champions Bayern Munich will pocket between KSh 433 Million and KSh 866 Million as appearance fee, depending on the importance of the match.
On the other hand, Dutch side Ajax will take home KSh 217 Million simply to participate in the friendly match.
Aside from the participation fee, the source further highlighted that the amount is inclusive of first-class travel and 5-star hotel accommodation for both teams.
Additionally, the source further revealed that the KSh 1 Billion will come from taxpayers’ money, a move that has sparked outrage and funding concerns among Kenyans on different social media platforms, who have questioned the priority of spending such a huge amount on a friendly match.
As a result, Kenyans online are now demanding accountability on how public funds are being used, while some continue to question why the government settled for European teams instead of organizing for the friendly match with the local teams.
