Bobby Motaung Backs Fernando Da Cruz, Calls for Patience as Kaizer Chiefs Focus on Long-Term Vision

Bobby Motaung Backs Fernando Da Cruz and Urges Patience at Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has reaffirmed the club’s support for head coach Fernando Da Cruz, emphasising that the Soweto giants are focused on long-term development rather than making decisions based solely on immediate results.

Motaung praised Da Cruz and his technical team for their professionalism, making it clear that the coach has full authority over the dressing room and the responsibility to implement his football philosophy. His comments underline the club’s intention to provide stability as Chiefs work towards becoming consistent challengers in domestic and continental competitions.

“My coach owns the change room, controls the change room. If you hear how people are fired in other clubs or whatever, we’re not in a circus game,” Motaung said.

The Chiefs official also stressed that the club needs a clear long-term strategy instead of reacting hastily whenever results fail to meet expectations. He expressed confidence in Da Cruz’s abilities, describing the coach and his technical staff as highly qualified professionals capable of moving the team forward.

“We don’t need a short-term vision; we need a long-term vision. Without dwelling into it, this is a high-level coach that we’ve got. The technical staff are professional and high-level,” he added.

Motaung’s remarks come as Chiefs continue working to restore their competitiveness and meet the expectations of their demanding supporters. The club believes that sustained progress requires patience, consistency and cooperation between management, coaches and players.

He further highlighted the importance of improving the technical quality of South African footballers, particularly younger players who aspire to compete at the highest level of African football.

According to Motaung, participating in competitions such as the CAF Champions League requires players to possess strong technical abilities and maintain professional standards.

While the club has expressed confidence in Da Cruz, the coach will still face pressure to deliver improved performances and positive results. Ultimately, Chiefs will need to turn management’s backing into tangible progress as they pursue their ambitions this season.
