Bobby Motaung Highlights Key Lessons as Kaizer Chiefs Look to Build Confidence

Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung believes the club can use the lessons from their recent matches to build confidence and improve their performances as they continue their campaign in South African football.

The Glamour Boys have experienced a challenging period, with inconsistent results putting pressure on the team to deliver better performances. However, Motaung believes there are encouraging signs within the squad, particularly following a change in results in their latest outing.

Speaking about the team’s progress, Motaung stressed the importance of supporting young players and creating an environment in which they can develop their confidence. He also expressed his belief in the technical team’s ability to guide the players through a demanding period.

“I think confidence must be built in terms of what we give to these youngsters and hope. And I think we’ve got a good technical staff, a professional technical staff,” Motaung said.

His comments underline the club’s determination to remain patient with its players while working towards greater consistency on the pitch.

Kaizer Chiefs have been under pressure to meet the expectations of their supporters, who are eager to see the Soweto giants return to challenging for major honours. The club’s recent struggles have highlighted areas that require improvement, but the management believes these experiences can provide valuable lessons for the team.

Rather than allowing difficult results to damage the players’ belief, Motaung’s message suggests that the club wants to use those experiences as motivation to move forward.

Confidence remains an important factor, particularly for younger players who are still adapting to the demands and expectations of representing one of South Africa’s biggest football clubs.

The technical team will therefore have an important role in helping the squad improve its tactical understanding, maintain discipline and approach upcoming fixtures with greater belief.

The convincing 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout last 16 has offered Chiefs a timely boost after their disappointing elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup. The result secured their place in the quarter-finals, where they are scheduled to face Siwelele FC.

Motaung also pointed to the impact of injuries and breaks in the season, explaining that these disruptions affected the momentum the team had built earlier in the campaign.

According to him, Chiefs had enjoyed a promising start before interruptions and injuries made it difficult to maintain their rhythm. He believes the team must rediscover the consistency required to compete at the highest level.

The football manager further emphasised that supporters should look beyond individual results and consider the circumstances surrounding each performance. He believes analysing mistakes and understanding what went wrong can help the players make better decisions in subsequent matches.

Meanwhile, the technical team, led by head coach Fernando da Cruz, will be expected to build on the recent improvement and ensure that the players remain focused on their objectives.

The upcoming Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates presents another important opportunity for Amakhosi to demonstrate their progress. The highly anticipated encounter will test their resilience, tactical discipline and ability to perform under pressure.

For Chiefs, the priority will be to turn the confidence gained from their Carling Knockout victory into consistent performances in the Betway Premiership and other competitions.

Although the recent win represents an encouraging step, Motaung’s message suggests that the club understands the importance of patience, player development and sustained improvement.

With young talents requiring support and the technical team working to establish its football philosophy, Chiefs will hope that the lessons learned during their difficult spell ultimately contribute to a stronger campaign.

The challenge now is to turn renewed confidence into consistent results. For the Amakhosi faithful, the hope is that the victory over TS Galaxy marks the beginning of a more positive period for the Soweto giants.
