Former Citizen TV Presenter Finally Launches Her Own Digital Platform After Quitting Her Job
Former Citizen TV journalist Yvonne Okwara has officially launched a new chapter in her career after starting her own YouTube channel following her departure from the television station.
The renowned news anchor has already made her first major move by releasing an exclusive interview with a Kenyan man who survived after allegedly being recruited into the Russia-Ukraine war.Yvonne introduced viewers to a man identified as Vincent, who narrated how he was reportedly misled into travelling to Russia before finding himself caught up in the deadly conflict.
In a short video shared on her social media platforms, the journalist described Vincent’s experience as one of the most captivating stories she had ever covered.
She explained that his account was particularly important because, although many Kenyans had heard about people being recruited to fight in the war, few had heard from those who managed to escape.
Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, several Kenyan families have expressed concerns over relatives who travelled to Russia after receiving promises of well-paying jobs. Some young Kenyans were reportedly offered monthly salaries of up to KSh 300,000, alongside attractive recruitment bonuses. However, some allegedly discovered that the opportunities involved joining the Russian military and taking part in the fighting.
Yvonne also highlighted the pain experienced by families who have been desperately searching for their sons, brothers and husbands who travelled abroad but later disappeared.
She explained that Vincent’s story offered a different perspective because he had personally experienced the situation and successfully escaped.
The journalist further revealed that despite conducting numerous interviews throughout her television career, her conversation with Vincent stood out as particularly remarkable.
In the full interview, Vincent shares how he was convinced to travel to Russia, the challenges he encountered after arriving and how he eventually found a way to escape.
The promotional video ended with a dramatic scene showing Vincent getting into Yvonne’s vehicle, leaving viewers eager to discover more about his experience.
The interview is available on her newly launched YouTube channel, marking her first major project since leaving Citizen TV.
Her latest venture signals her transition into independent digital journalism, where she can pursue exclusive interviews and tell important stories beyond traditional television.
