Babu Owino Finally Gets Microphone at Linda Mwananchi Launch After Crowd Demands His Speech
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino found himself at the centre of attention during the launch of the Linda Mwananchi Movement after supporters intervened and demanded that he be given an opportunity to address the gathering. The incident happened on Friday, October 30, in Nairobi.
The lawmaker attended the event alongside several opposition leaders as Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna officially unveiled the rebranding of The Equitable Party into the Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM). However, his appearance at the political gathering was followed by an unexpected development.
Despite being among the politicians seated at the front, Babu appeared to receive limited recognition as the programme progressed. Several opposition leaders and movement officials were invited to address the audience, but the Embakasi East MP was initially missing from the speaking lineup.
His absence from the initial list of speakers attracted attention among supporters who expected him to address the gathering. The situation eventually changed after members of the audience started demanding that he be allowed to speak during the highly attended political event.
Following the intervention from the crowd, Sifuna handed Babu the microphone, allowing him to address supporters towards the conclusion of the programme. By then, several senior opposition figures had already delivered their speeches.
During his address, Babu openly declared his support for Sifuna, particularly regarding his presidential ambitions ahead of the 2027 General Election. He thanked the Nairobi senator for leading the movement and assured him that he would remain supportive throughout their political journey.
The MP also called for opposition unity, arguing that political cooperation was necessary to address challenges affecting ordinary Kenyans. He mentioned small-scale traders, unemployed young people and elderly citizens struggling to access medical treatment as groups requiring attention.
Babu maintained that opposition leaders needed to work together if they hoped to push for meaningful changes in the country. He further pledged his loyalty to the Kenyan people, saying he would continue walking alongside Sifuna despite challenges encountered during their political journey.
The legislator also addressed an upcoming Orange Democratic Movement rally scheduled for Saturday at Jacaranda Grounds in Embakasi East. He appealed to residents and supporters planning to attend the gathering to maintain peace and avoid confrontations.
Babu explained that he did not want another incident involving loss of lives or destruction of property, urging political supporters to exercise restraint during the planned political activities.
The launch also witnessed another dramatic moment involving Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who faced interruptions after questioning the announcement of Sifuna as a presidential candidate.
Kalonzo argued that the Nairobi senator needed to follow the necessary constitutional and party procedures before his presidential candidature could be formally settled. His remarks prompted sections of the audience to chant Sifuna’s name and boo him.
At one point, Kalonzo questioned whether the audience wanted him to continue speaking, forcing Sifuna to intervene and ask supporters to respect visiting opposition leaders.
Kalonzo later maintained that he would support Sifuna if he emerged as the opposition’s preferred presidential candidate, while insisting on consultations before a final decision.
