Sifuna Unveils Linda Mwananchi Leadership Team as Movement Prepares for 2027 Elections

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has proposed a leadership team for the Linda Mwananchi Movement, bringing together elected leaders, former officeholders and other political figures as the group prepares to establish its structures ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The proposed line-up was announced on Friday, October 30, during the launch of the movement’s national headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi. The team is expected to be presented to delegates for consideration at a National Delegates Convention scheduled for November 13.

Sifuna has been proposed as party leader, with former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, Patrick Makau and Faith Odhiambo named as deputy party leaders. A fourth deputy position has been reserved for a representative from the Coast region.

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has been proposed as national chairperson, while former Makadara MP Reuben Ndolo is listed as deputy national chairperson. Caroli Omondi has been proposed for the secretary-general position, with Pauline Njoroge as deputy secretary-general.

The proposed national treasurer is Richard Onyonka, while Abigail Gikonyo, popularly known as Abi Zuena, has been named deputy national treasurer.

Other appointments cover political affairs, organising, legal affairs, women, youth, minority affairs, diaspora relations, international affairs, public policy and economic affairs.

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has been proposed as secretary for political affairs and campaigns, while Carey Karani is listed as organising secretary and Wilberforce Owundo as deputy organising secretary. Francis Kadide has been proposed for the secretary for legal affairs position.

Frida Onduso has been named secretary for women affairs and president of the youth league, while Caroline Mayunzu has been proposed as secretary for women affairs. Torome Nalengoyo, Eunice Juma, Gilbert Shanga, Jack Wamboka and Barbara Malowa have also been assigned roles in the proposed structure.

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has been proposed to chair the Board of Trustees and lead the presidential campaign. Former Law Society of Kenya president Faith Odhiambo has been named his deputy in the campaign team.

Sifuna said the arrangement was intended to accommodate regional representation, explaining that the movement planned to have one party leader and four deputies.

Beyond naming officials, the movement has set a target of establishing offices in all 47 counties by December. Kwale is expected to host the first phase of the rollout on Saturday, October 31.

The proposed headquarters is intended to coordinate the movement’s national activities and serve as its presidential campaign command centre.

The announcement came amid a tense moment at the launch involving Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka. Sections of the audience heckled Kalonzo after he questioned whether Sifuna could already be described as a presidential candidate before the November 13 convention.

Supporters chanted Sifuna’s name, prompting the senator to intervene and ask them to respect the invited leaders and allow Kalonzo to speak.

The November convention is expected to provide an opportunity for delegates to consider the proposed leadership arrangements and determine the movement’s next steps as the 2027 election approaches.
