Transition to Digital Receipts: Equity Bank Addresses Missing Transaction Confirmation Messages

Equity Bank Kenya has addressed growing customer inquiries regarding the absence of instant SMS confirmation alerts following transactions completed via the Safaricom M-Pesa Paybill number 247247.

The lender clarified that the change aligns with a broader institutional strategy to transition users toward secure, real-time in-app push notifications and downloadable digital receipts available on the Equity Mobile application.

The financial institution highlighted that while Safaricom generates an immediate M-Pesa confirmation SMS containing the business number, account reference, and transaction ID, secondary bank-side SMS alerts are being phased out in favor of digital-first channels.

Equity Bank noted that routing transaction verification through the mobile app and short code USSD platforms significantly enhances account security, reduces SMS gateway delivery latencies during peak network traffic, and mitigates rising third-party telecommunication costs.

To ensure customers track incoming deposits seamlessly, Equity Bank urged account holders to enable push notifications within the Equity Mobile app or utilize the free mini-statement feature via USSD.

The bank emphasized that funds deposited through Paybill 247247 continue to reflect instantly in core banking balances despite the absence of a traditional SMS reply.

Account holders experiencing delayed updates are advised to retain their M-Pesa confirmation reference for verification or contact customer support via official digital channels for immediate reconciliation.
