Just Hours After Launching His New Party, Sifuna Receives This Unexpected Message from ODM

A fresh political storm has emerged within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after Amina Mnyazi launched a strong attack on Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and other leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement.

Mnyazi accused Sifuna and his allies of abandoning ODM after the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, describing them as traitors who had waited for the veteran politician to die before making their political exit.

“SIFUNA walingojea RAILA afe ndio watoke ODM, yeye na wenzake ni wasaliti,” Mnyazi stated.

Her remarks come at a time when ODM is facing growing divisions over its political direction following Raila’s death on October 15, 2025.

The disagreement has largely centred on the party’s relationship with President William Ruto’s broad-based government and the political future of the movement that Raila built over several years.

Sifuna, who served as ODM secretary-general for eight years, has become one of the leading figures in the Linda Mwananchi movement.

He has repeatedly defended his decision to chart a different political path, maintaining that he fought to protect ODM and the political principles he learnt from Raila.

The senator has also accused some ODM leaders of turning against Raila’s family, particularly after the first anniversary of the former Prime Minister’s death in Bondo, Siaya County.

ODM national chairperson Gladys Wanga has also criticised Sifuna and other Linda Mwananchi leaders, accusing them of betraying Raila’s political vision by working with leaders opposed to the broad-based government.

The latest exchange comes as Sifuna officially launches his new political party, Linda Mwananchi, in Nairobi on Friday, October 30, marking another major step in his political journey ahead of the 2027 General Election.

With different groups claiming to defend Raila’s legacy, the battle over the future of ODM continues to attract attention.

Will the latest accusations deepen the divisions within Raila’s former political party?
