Tension In ODM as Kisumu Politial Leaders Reject Any Oral Deal With Ruto’s UDA, Give Demands
According to reports from The Star, local political leaders and grassroots civil groups in Kisumu have sparked intense discussions within the Orange Democratic Movement by firmly rejecting any informal or oral political arrangements with President William Rutoβs United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Political tensions have grown significantly as party members have insisted that any future cooperation must move beyond casual verbal agreements into formalized, written frameworks.
This debate has triggered wider discussions across the political landscape, drawing varied reactions from high-profile figures such as Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga regarding how the party should approach power-sharing and national alliances.
Days ago, PS Omollo is in record saying that the ODM does not need a formal written document for it to support Ruto because Raila had already set in motion the working relationship between Ruto and his ODM Party.
While leaders like Wanga have emphasized the necessity of protecting regional interests and securing concrete terms, others have questioned whether rigid pre-election pacts might complicate broader government collaboration.
Meanwhile, strategic deliberations, including recent high-level meetings at Chungwa House, have focused on shaping the alliance’s joint manifesto and structuring political strategies ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
Yesterday, a team from UDA and from ODM met at Chungwa House to review the progress of the talk ahead of 2027 political formations.
Grassroots stakeholders have maintained that any formal document must clearly address pressing economic issues, youth employment and equitable representation rather than focusing solely on elite positions.
As these competing factions navigate their next steps, the ongoing negotiations have tested internal party unity and redefined the path toward the 2027 general elections.
