Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has publicly endorsed the Linda Mwananchi Movement led by Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna, praising its messaging, energy, and mobilisation capacity while backing its stated goal of producing a single unified opposition presidential candidate.

He was emphatic that in politics, numerical strength is what matters above all else.

The former deputy president and leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party disclosed that he had engaged in one-on-one discussions with Sifuna by phone before his departure from the country to the US, with his allies and colleagues also holding separate talks with the movement's leadership.

Gachagua said what particularly appealed to him was Sifuna's public commitment not to use the Linda Mwananchi platform to fragment the opposition.

Instead, Sifuna had repeatedly stated his intention to bring the movement into a broader coalition that would rally behind one candidate ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Following the remarks, Pauline Njoroge, the Linda Mwananchi Movement's PR and communications strategist, responded to Gachagua's comments on her X account, drawing on a biblical metaphor to describe the movement's trajectory.

Gachagua's endorsement adds significant political weight to the Linda Mwananchi movement as opposition groupings continue to position themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential race, with discussions around a joint candidacy gaining momentum across multiple formations.
