Ruto Reveals What Kenya and Africa Expect From Russia as He Pushes for Major Economic Changes

President William Ruto has outlined what Kenya and other African countries want from Russia, calling for increased investment in key economic sectors to accelerate development, create jobs and strengthen the continent’s position in the global economy.

Speaking at the Third Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum at the Kremlin in Moscow on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Ruto urged Russia to deepen its economic partnership with African nations through investments that deliver lasting benefits to their citizens.

The President identified agriculture, education, healthcare, scientific research, innovation and artificial intelligence as some of the priority areas where Russia could expand its engagement with African countries.

According to Ruto, greater investment in these sectors would help African economies strengthen their productive capacity, improve essential services and create more opportunities for their growing populations.

He also called for reforms to the international financial system, arguing that existing arrangements should better address Africa’s development priorities and economic challenges.

The President said African countries needed financial structures that would support their ambitions instead of limiting their ability to invest in critical sectors.

His remarks reflect Kenya’s broader efforts to attract foreign investment, expand international trade and establish partnerships that can support long term economic growth.

Agriculture remains an important area for cooperation, with investment expected to support food production, modern farming methods and the processing of agricultural products.

In education and research, stronger partnerships could help improve skills development, encourage innovation and expand access to new technologies.

Healthcare investment could also strengthen medical services, while cooperation in artificial intelligence could create opportunities for technological advancement and improved productivity.

Ruto’s appeal comes as Kenya seeks to broaden its economic relationships beyond traditional trading arrangements and attract investors capable of supporting local industries.

The President has also been engaging Russian business leaders to explore opportunities in manufacturing, energy, infrastructure and agricultural processing.

For African countries, the central question is whether the renewed diplomatic engagement will translate into concrete investments, new industries and employment opportunities.

Ruto’s message was clear, Kenya and Africa want an economic partnership with Russia that supports development and produces measurable benefits for their people.

The success of the proposed cooperation will ultimately depend on whether commitments made during the forum lead to funded projects, stronger trade and sustainable economic growth.
