Public Sector Workers To Reportedly Get 9% Salary Increase In 2027 And 10% In 2028
According to a report by The BBC Ghana yesterday which was Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the Government of Ghana and Organised Labour have reached an agreement to increase the remuneration of public sector workers by 9% in 2027 and 10% in 2028, following negotiations between the two parties.
The agreement was signed on October 28, 2026, and outlines the salary adjustments expected to benefit public sector employees over the next two years. The arrangement is intended to provide an agreed framework for workers’ remuneration during the period covered by the deal.
Under the terms of the agreement, public sector workers will receive a 9% increase in their total remuneration in 2027. The adjustment will comprise an 8-percentage-point increase in base pay and a 1-percentage-point allocation towards conditions of service.
For 2028, workers will receive a 10% increase in base pay, representing a further adjustment to their earnings under the two-year agreement.
The agreement is scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027, and remain in force until December 31, 2028. This means that the agreed pay adjustments will cover the entire two-year period, providing a timeline for the implementation of the salary increases.
The development follows discussions between the government and organised labour representatives over the remuneration of public sector employees. Such negotiations are important in determining salary adjustments and addressing issues affecting workers’ welfare.
Salary increases are often a major concern for public sector employees, particularly when changes in the cost of living affect household budgets and purchasing power. The agreed adjustments are therefore expected to attract attention from workers and other stakeholders interested in developments within Ghana’s labour sector.
However, the actual impact of the increases on workers’ living standards will depend on factors such as inflation, taxation and changes in the prices of essential goods and services.
With the agreement now signed, attention will turn to its implementation from the beginning of 2027.
The deal establishes the remuneration increases agreed upon by the government and Organised Labour for 2027 and 2028, marking an important development in negotiations over public sector pay in Ghana.
