President Ruto Leads Kalonzo Musyoka and Edwin Sifuna in New 2027 Election Poll
President William Ruto has emerged as the leading candidate in the latest opinion poll on the 2027 General Election, maintaining a significant advantage over potential opposition challengers Kalonzo Musyoka and Edwin Sifuna.
The survey, conducted by Swiss Poll International between October 19 and 22, 2026, placed Ruto at 40.2% of voter preference, suggesting that he remains a strong contender as political leaders prepare for the next presidential contest.
Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka came second with 19.7%, while Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna followed closely with 17.6%.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua registered 7.5%, while former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i attracted 6.0% support. Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro received 4.5%, with 3.3% of respondents remaining undecided.
The findings indicate that Ruto currently enjoys a considerable lead over individual opposition figures. However, the distribution of support among several potential challengers raises questions about whether opposition leaders can agree on a single candidate capable of mounting a stronger challenge against the incumbent.
Kalonzo’s second-place position places him among the leading contenders seeking to challenge Ruto. Meanwhile, Sifuna’s performance reflects his growing presence in national political discussions, particularly as disagreements continue over the direction and leadership of the opposition ahead of the election.
Gachagua’s support also highlights his continued relevance in the emerging political contest, although his rating in the survey places him behind the three leading candidates.
Swiss Poll International surveyed 6,146 Kenyans drawn from all eight regions of the country, including Nairobi, Rift Valley, Western, Eastern, Central, Nyanza, Coast and North Eastern.
The poll was conducted at a 95% confidence level, with a reported margin of error of plus or minus 1.8 percentage points. Men accounted for 52.8% of the respondents, while women represented 47.2%. Participants aged between 26 and 35 formed the largest age group, accounting for 25.8% of those surveyed.
The results provide an indication of voter preferences at this stage of the election cycle but do not determine the eventual outcome. With the August 2027 General Election still ahead, political alliances, campaign strategies and changes in public opinion could significantly alter the standings.
The extent to which opposition leaders cooperate or continue pursuing separate presidential ambitions may prove important in determining how competitive the race becomes in the coming months.
