Cheruiyot Issues Stern Warning Ahead Of Bayern Vs Ajax Clash, States The Following

Kericho Senator and Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot has issued a firm call for a cultural shift in how fans access the new Raila Odinga International Stadium, just as Kenya prepares to host the high-profile friendly between Bayern Munich and Ajax Amsterdam.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on 28 October 2026, Cheruiyot declared: “Rule number one of Raila Odinga stadium, we must now let go of certain silly habits. Tickets should be the only way into the stadium, the stupidity of ‘huyu ni mwesh’ must be left to Nyayo stadium & camp Toyoyo. New stadium, new habits.”

The phrase “huyu ni mwesh” (this one is a relative/friend) refers to the long-standing practice at older Kenyan venues such as Nyayo National Stadium of allowing people entry through personal connections, unofficial VIP privileges or informal gate-keeping rather than valid tickets. Cheruiyot argued that the modern 60,000-seater facility at Talanta Sports City in Nairobi demands higher standards of order, fairness and professionalism.

The warning comes as excitement builds for the stadium’s official opening on 5 January 2027. The fixture will feature two European powerhouses — Bayern Munich and Ajax — in what organisers have billed as a landmark event for Kenyan football and a dress rehearsal ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.

Cheruiyot’s remarks reflect growing public discussion about crowd management, revenue protection and safety at the new venue. Supporters and officials have long complained that uncontrolled free or preferential entry at older grounds undermines ticketing systems, creates congestion and sometimes compromises security.

By insisting that tickets become the sole legitimate means of access, the senator is effectively setting a zero-tolerance tone for the inaugural match and future events. The message is clear: the Raila Odinga International Stadium represents a fresh start, and old habits of favouritism or informal access have no place there.

As ticket sales and preparations intensify in the coming weeks, Cheruiyot’s intervention is likely to fuel further debate on how Kenya can match world-class infrastructure with equally disciplined operational culture.
