Inside State House Meeting That Has Ended Lectures Strike as Learning Set to Start on Monday,Details
A decisive high-level intervention has finally broken the month-long impasse paralyzing Kenya’s public higher education system, paving the way for lecture halls to reopen next week.
According to official statements shared by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba and reports from Standard Digital, top state officials have convened a critical executive consultation to resolve the ongoing industrial action by public university staff.
The crucial meeting has brought together State House Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, Higher Education Principal Secretary Dr. Beatrice Muganda Inyangala, and National Treasury Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo.
This executive gathering has served as the key turning point in ending weeks of nationwide learning disruptions and street demonstrations.
During the deliberations, government officials have unlocked a comprehensive financial framework, agreeing to a KSh 20 billion settlement structured to address the long-standing demands of the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU).
State representatives have confirmed that the allocated funds will be disbursed across three structured phases to satisfy pending salary and welfare commitments under the collective bargaining framework.
Following this major consensus, union representatives and government leaders have agreed to formally conclude the strike action on Friday, allowing academic staff to prepare for immediate duty.
Education ministry officials have subsequently announced that teaching and learning activities across all public universities have been scheduled to resume fully on Monday next week.
The successful resolution has brought overwhelming relief to thousands of students, parents, and administrative staff who have endured weeks of academic uncertainty and campus shutdowns.
By securing direct fiscal support from the National Treasury and executive backing from the Office of the President, the government has successfully restored stability to public universities, ensuring that academic calendars can finally regain normal momentum.
