Soludo: If You Read My Course, You Will Not Even Get Third Class. I Read Estate Management—Umeh

Anambra Central Senator, Victor Umeh, has weighed in on the academic backgrounds of prominent Nigerian political figures, including former Governor Peter Obi and incumbent Governor Charles Soludo, while defending the rigorous nature of his own university degree .

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television, on Tuesday October 27, 2026, Senator Umeh compared their respective academic paths from their undergraduate days at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), where he, Soludo, and Obi were contemporaries between 1980 and 1984.

Addressing discussions surrounding academic honors, Umeh recounted Soludo’s distinction in economics and Obi’s classification while highlighting the demanding curriculum of his own field, estate management.

“If you read, if you read my course, you will not even get third class. I read estate management. That is the most difficult course to read in the university. He read Soludo; Soludo read economics, economics, economics, and he graduated with the first class. Yes. Single course, single honor. If you go to what did Peter [make]? Second class lower division, yes, that’s what he made,” Umeh stated.

The senator elaborated on why he considers estate management uniquely challenging, pointing to its multi-disciplinary integration of various professional disciplines.

“Let me tell you, there is a course you read, you won’t think about first class: estate management. You do courses in architecture, engineering, surveying, accounting, and uh, all law. You read land law, you read law of contract, you read arbitration and awards. When you are exposed to all of that, estate management is a multi-disciplinary course,” he explained.

Despite highlighting these differing academic achievements, Umeh maintained that university degree classifications do not define leadership capability or long-term political impact.
