My greatest fear was going to prison, but now am here – Chairman wontumi
According to report by Ghbase on Monday 26, October 2026, former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has reportedly opened up about his greatest fear in life during a visit by broadcaster Kwame Tanko, widely known as KT, to the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.
According to reports from the visit, Wontumi told the broadcaster that his greatest fear had always been going to prison, despite the fact that he has now found himself behind bars.
“My greatest fear in this world is going to prison, but now I’m here,” Wontumi reportedly told KT Tanko.
The statement offers insight into Wontumi’s reported reflections on his current situation as he serves a prison sentence following his conviction in the Samreboi illegal mining case.
According to KT Tanko’s account, the former NPP regional chairman also encouraged him and others close to him to accept the situation and move forward rather than remain consumed by anger, disappointment or regret over what had happened.
“What will happen has happened,” Wontumi reportedly said, suggesting that those around him should come to terms with the circumstances and focus on the way forward.
Wontumi’s reported remarks have drawn attention because of his position as a prominent political figure in the Ashanti Region and his involvement in the legal proceedings that have led to his imprisonment.
Before his conviction, Wontumi was known for his outspoken political commentary and active involvement in the activities of the NPP, particularly in the Ashanti Region, which has traditionally been an important electoral stronghold for the party.
Meanwhile, the politician is also facing a separate legal battle connected to the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve case. The case adds another dimension to his ongoing legal challenges, although its outcome remains a matter for the relevant judicial processes.
His reported comments during KT Tanko’s visit have renewed public interest in his circumstances, with attention focused on both his imprisonment and the separate case he continues to face.
Further developments in the legal proceedings are expected to determine the course of the remaining matters involving the former regional chairman.
