Tinubu described Lula as his friend and said the Brazilian leader’s renewed mandate presented an opportunity to deepen the longstanding friendship and historical ties between Nigeria and Brazil.

“I congratulate my friend, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil, on his re-election for a record fourth term,” Tinubu wrote.

The Nigerian president highlighted the importance of cooperation between both countries, noting that their positions as leading nations of the Global South provided an opportunity to promote economic integration and pursue common interests.

“Your renewed mandate offers an opportunity to strengthen the longstanding friendship and historical ties between Nigeria and Brazil,” he stated.

Tinubu also expressed optimism about expanding cooperation in several strategic sectors, including trade and investment, agriculture and food security, energy, oil and gas, manufacturing, science and technology, education, aviation and cultural exchange.

He said closer collaboration in these areas could help both countries advance their economic interests and strengthen their partnership amid changes in the global order.

The president further reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to working with Brazil to strengthen multilateral cooperation and advance shared priorities across Africa, South America and the wider Global South.

Lula secured re-election in Brazil’s presidential runoff on Sunday, October 25, defeating his challenger, Flávio Bolsonaro, to secure another term in office. The result was confirmed by Brazil’s electoral authorities after the votes were counted.
