Opposition Coach Gifted Brand New Car Immediately After Knocking Out Amakhosi
Red Arrows Coach Chisi Mbewe Gifted New Wheels After Stunning Kaizer Chiefs Elimination
Red Arrows head coach Chisi Mbewe has received a major reward after guiding the Zambian outfit to a historic qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup group stage at the expense of South African giants Kaizer Chiefs.
Mbewe was presented with a Toyota Mark X by Zambia Air Force Commander Lieutenant General Oscar Musitu Nyoni, who also serves as the patron of Red Arrows, following the team’s impressive achievement on the continental stage.
The gesture came after Red Arrows returned home from South Africa, where they eliminated Amakhosi in a dramatic second-leg encounter at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Friday, October 23, 2026.
The reward recognises the coach’s contribution to the team’s success and underlines the importance of the achievement for the club and Zambian football.
Red Arrows arrived in Durban holding a narrow advantage after winning the first leg 1-0 in Ndola. However, Chiefs fought back in the return fixture, with Bradley Cross scoring a second-half header to give the Soweto giants a 1-0 victory on the night and level the aggregate score at 1-1.
With neither side able to find the decisive goal, the contest proceeded to a penalty shootout. Red Arrows held their nerve to win 3-2 from the spot, securing their place in the group stage and ending Chiefs’ hopes of progressing further in the competition.
The elimination represented a major setback for Amakhosi, who had entered the tie determined to reach the next round. Despite creating several opportunities in Durban, the South African side failed to convert enough chances to avoid the shootout.
For Mbewe and his players, however, the result marked a significant milestone.
According to reports from Zambia, Nyoni personally welcomed the returning team at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport and congratulated the players on delivering the victory he had expected.
The Air Force commander subsequently presented Mbewe with the vehicle to assist with his transportation to training sessions and official duties.
Nyoni also challenged the team to build on its achievement by targeting a place in the CAF Confederation Cup final. His message made it clear that the qualification should serve as the beginning of a more ambitious continental campaign rather than the team’s ultimate destination.
The achievement has also attracted recognition from Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, who reportedly congratulated the club’s leadership following the memorable result.
Red Arrows will now turn their attention to the group stage, where they will face tougher opposition as they seek to establish themselves among Africa’s competitive clubs.
Meanwhile, Chiefs must reflect on their disappointing continental exit and redirect their focus towards domestic competitions.
For Mbewe, receiving a brand-new set of wheels is a welcome personal reward after delivering a result that has brought considerable pride to Red Arrows and Zambian football.
