Frank Makua Questions Chiefs Players Ahead of Soweto Derby and Title Push

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Frank Makua has raised concerns about the quality of certain players in the current Amakhosi squad, questioning whether the Soweto giants have enough strength and consistency to mount a serious challenge for the Betway Premiership title this season.

Makua’s assessment comes at a crucial stage of the campaign, with Chiefs continuing their efforts to re-establish themselves among South Africa’s leading clubs. His comments have added to the growing debate about the team’s progress and whether the current squad possesses the quality required to compete for major honours.

The former midfielder believes there are still questions surrounding some players, raising concerns about their ability to deliver consistent performances throughout a demanding league campaign. Although Chiefs have ambitions of challenging for the championship, maintaining high standards against different opponents remains essential.

The upcoming Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates presents Amakhosi with an important opportunity to demonstrate their progress. The highly anticipated encounter carries enormous significance for both clubs, with supporters expecting their teams to deliver strong performances in one of South African football’s biggest rivalries.

For Chiefs, however, the stakes extend beyond bragging rights. A positive result against Pirates could provide a significant confidence boost and strengthen belief in the team’s ability to compete with the league’s strongest sides.

Makua’s concerns also reflect the pressure surrounding Chiefs as they attempt to restore their reputation as regular contenders for trophies. The club’s passionate supporters expect consistent performances and tangible progress after seasons in which winning major silverware has proved difficult.

Nevertheless, doubts about individual players do not necessarily mean Chiefs are out of the title race. Their prospects will depend on results, squad depth, tactical improvements and their ability to respond under pressure.

As the derby approaches, attention will turn to how the technical team prepares its players for the challenge. The encounter against Pirates could provide a clearer indication of Chiefs’ readiness to compete at the highest level and whether they can turn their ambitions into meaningful results.
