I called the man responsible and begged him to pause — Linda Ocloo speaks on Kaajaano demolition
Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo has stated that her office and the relevant municipal authorities had no involvement in the demolition of homes and structures at the Kaajaano fishing community in La Dadekotopon Municipality.
The exercise, reportedly conducted in the early hours of Saturday, April 11, 2026, left several residents without shelter after their structures were demolished and personal belongings removed. Public concern over the incident grew after TV3 Ghana reported on the development and videos from the scene circulated online.
According to Ocloo, she was not informed about the operation beforehand. In a Facebook video on Monday, April 13, she said she only heard about the incident after receiving reports about the difficulties faced by residents. She said she then contacted the person alleged to have organised the demolition and pleaded with him to suspend the exercise.
“I called the man and told him what I had heard, and I begged him to pause,” Ocloo said. She explained that she was especially disturbed by reports that the possessions of residents, including items belonging to women, were being taken away during the exercise.
The Regional Minister insisted that neither her office nor the La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly authorised the demolition. She also said the local Member of Parliament had not sanctioned the operation. According to Ocloo, the Municipal Chief Executive was equally unaware of what was happening because he was reportedly away from the municipality when the demolition commenced.
“The MCE also doesn’t know anything about this,” she stated, noting that the MCE later got in touch with her after receiving information about the incident.
Ocloo expressed concern over the situation and said authorities were working to secure temporary accommodation for those affected. She nevertheless acknowledged that the response had been complicated by the extent of the demolition, with many of the structures already reduced to rubble before efforts to intervene could take effect.
