Tinubu flags off campaign, blasts opposition, backs APC governors against Rainbow Coalition

President Bola Tinubu has officially launched his 2027 presidential campaign in Kaduna State, where he expressed strong support for APC governors opposing the rainbow coalition proposed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, according to a report by The Vanguard on Sunday, October 25, 2026.

Speaking before thousands of supporters ahead of the January 16, 2027 presidential election, Tinubu praised the governors for their developmental achievements, stating that he was proud of the progress they had made in their respective states.

The President aligned himself with their opposition to the proposed rainbow coalition and urged Nigerians to vote massively for him and other APC candidates across all levels of government.

Tinubu also launched a strong criticism of opposition politicians, holding them responsible for the economic difficulties and widespread poverty currently affecting Nigerians. He described their criticisms as complaints from failed politicians who lacked meaningful solutions to the country’s challenges.

Addressing concerns about the economy, Tinubu insisted that the removal of fuel subsidies was permanent, arguing that the decision would pave the way for economic growth and recovery. He promised Nigerians a second term focused on prosperity, greater opportunities and national development. During his address, he repeatedly asked supporters to display their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

Earlier, Vice President Kashim Shettima praised the administration for its resilience, saying it had kept the country united despite predictions of severe economic difficulties.

Shettima also highlighted development projects in Kaduna State, particularly in the education sector. He pointed to the establishment of federal and state tertiary institutions, alongside vocational training centres aimed at equipping young people with relevant skills.

Tinubu urged voters to be cautious of what he described as misleading claims and false information from political opponents as the country approaches the January 16, 2027 election. He called on Nigerians to support the continuation of the APC-led administration, presenting its agenda around economic growth, recovery and expanded opportunities.
