Bad News for Ruto as Opposition Makes a Bold Political Move He Has Never Faced Before — Details
Opposition leaders Ndindi Nyoro and Fred Matiang’i have criticised President William Ruto’s administration, saying Kenyans continue to face serious challenges in education, the economy and security as the country heads towards the 2027 General Election.
The two leaders spoke on Sunday, October 25, 2026, during a political rally in Rongai, Kajiado County, where they called for changes in leadership and urged Kenyans to consider their options in the next election.
Kiharu MP and People’s Party of Kenya leader Nyoro accused the government of failing to address problems affecting ordinary citizens. He pointed to school funding, the rising cost of living and unemployment as some of the issues requiring urgent attention.
Nyoro also raised concerns about the ongoing university lecturers’ strike, warning that continued disruption of learning could affect students’ academic progress.
He argued that education funding remained a major concern for schools, with some institutions facing financial difficulties as they seek to meet their daily needs.
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i supported the call for change, saying the country needed leadership that could address the challenges facing its citizens.
Matiang’i also expressed concern about the university lecturers’ strike, noting that students risked delays in completing their studies if the dispute continued.
The leaders’ remarks come amid growing political activity as opposition parties work to strengthen their alliances ahead of the August 2027 General Election.
Their criticism follows President Ruto’s recent defence of his administration’s economic record during the Mashujaa Day celebrations in Eldoret. The President outlined proposed tax relief measures and plans to create additional internship opportunities from January 2027.
However, opposition leaders have questioned whether the government has done enough to ease the financial burden on households.
As political campaigns gradually take shape, education, employment, taxation and the cost of living are emerging as key issues in the debate over the country’s future leadership.
The question now is whether opposition leaders can turn their criticism into a shared plan that addresses the concerns raised by Kenyans.
