“I Don’t Want To See Her Fall”- Itele Reveals Why He Defended Irewole Olaniyan Amid Controversy
Nollywood actor Ibrahim Yekini, popularly known as Itele, has explained why he came to the defence of his colleague, Irewole Olaniyan, following the controversy surrounding her alleged involvement with a married man.
The Yoruba actress reportedly became embroiled in a scandal about a month ago, which also drew reactions from Itele’s wife. However, her comments about Olaniyan did not sit well with the actor, prompting him to intervene.
Speaking during an interview on African A-List, Itele explained that Olaniyan holds him in high regard and regularly addresses him as her boss, even though he was not the person who trained her in the movie industry.
According to the actor, building a reputation in Nollywood requires considerable effort, and he does not like seeing people lose what they have worked hard to achieve.
He explained that his intervention was not intended to create a serious dispute between him and his wife, adding that their marriage remains strong despite the situation.
“Now I understand, I wasn’t the one who taught her, but I’m boss to her. She usually calls me boss. A name isn’t easy to get.
If I see someone who is great, I pray they don’t fall.
Because a name isn’t easy to build, I intervened as if it were a joke. I told my wife it is high time we left the matter.
I said, ‘If you stop, I’ll do this for you’.
Immediately, I posted it; I deleted it. My wife is still my wife, and our bond of love is very strong.
God gave people like us clues that keep our wives from leaving.
But they would be scared; don’t let them be”.
Itele’s explanation suggests that his decision to defend Olaniyan was motivated by his desire to protect the reputation she had built over the years, rather than a desire to undermine his wife.
