Today’s Headlines: Obi Too Stingy To Be President — Wike; Obasanjo Visits Adebutu At 91

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has described the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, as stingy and unfit to govern Nigeria.

Wike made the remarks during a town hall meeting with stakeholders in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he questioned Obi’s leadership qualities and mocked him for carrying his own bags.

The minister argued that a former governor seeking to lead Nigeria should be able to employ a personal assistant rather than carry his belongings himself.

“As a former governor, you cannot be stingy not to have employed a personal assistant who will carry your bag. You want to show you carry your bag. We don’t want such a stingy person as a president,” Wike said.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo paid a surprise visit to his longtime friend, Sir Kessington Adebutu (popularly known as Baba Ijebu), on the occasion of the businessman’s 91st birthday. The visit took place at Adebutu’s residence, where the elder statesman was received warmly amid a gathering of family members, associates, and well-wishers in a luxurious indoor setting. In the video footage, Obasanjo is seen walking alongside Adebutu through the hallway and into the living area. The two men, both dressed in traditional attire, engaged in friendly interactions, with moments of laughter, conversation, and mutual gestures of respect. Obasanjo appears attentive and cordial as they move together through the space. The visit underscores the enduring personal friendship between the former Nigerian leader and the prominent philanthropist and lottery entrepreneur. Adebutu, born on October 24, 1935, has long been celebrated for his contributions to business and community development, and the surprise call from Obasanjo added a notable personal touch to the birthday celebrations.

Ex-envoy faults Ortom’s use of words, remarks on Alia, governance in Benue

Former Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly and Nigeria’s former Ambassador to Namibia, Terhemen Tarzoor, has faulted former Governor Samuel Ortom over his reported remarks against Governor Hyacinth Alia and his administration urging political leaders to exercise restraint in their public engagements.

Tarzoor, who spoke with newsmen in Makurdi, described some of Chief Ortom’s comments during a recent television programme as inappropriate, arguing that political differences should not undermine the dignity of the office of the governor or the people of the state.

The former lawmaker, who is also the Benue State coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors for President Bola Tinubu 2027, said Ortom whom he described as an elder brother he respects, should be more measured in his public statements about the incumbent governor.
