Presidency Reveals Why Military Tanks And Operatives Were Deployed Amid Obi-Kwankwaso March
According to a report by The Daily Post on Saturday, October 24, 2026, the Presidency has broken its silence regarding the heavy deployment of military tanks and tactical personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) at the strategic Abuja City Gate.
The armed security operatives were spotted stationed at the major gateway into the nation’s capital in the early hours of Saturday morning.
This massive security presence immediately triggered widespread speculation, with many linking the lockdown to an anticipated Obi-Kwankwaso political march organized to drum up support for Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Reacting swiftly to the growing tension and public concerns, the Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Social Media, Dayo Olusegun, strongly dismissed claims linking the heavy security deployment to any attempt to suppress the opposition or truncate political activities.
Clarifying the situation on social media, Olusegun explained that the heavy security presence is a standard operating procedure implemented whenever the President is embarking on an official trip.
He urged Nigerians and political commentators not to misconstrue routine security measures as political intimidation, reassuring the public that the current administration remains steadfast in upholding democratic principles and the rule of law ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu has traveled to Kaduna State to officially flag off his presidential campaign.
Earlier, the camp of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar responded to allegations of sabotage, maintaining that the administration’s record is enough grounds for rejection.
