“I hear my opponents talking about hunger and poverty. Who created it? They did” – President Tinubu

According to a report by Channels Television on Saturday, October 24, 2026, President Bola Tinubu has accused opposition parties of contributing to Nigeria’s hunger and poverty, insisting that his administration is working to address the economic challenges facing the country.

Tinubu made the remarks on Saturday, October 24, 2026, during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off at Kaduna Township Stadium, where he sought support for a second term in office.

Addressing party supporters, the president dismissed criticism of his government’s handling of the economy and challenged opposition politicians over their complaints about the rising cost of living.

“I hear my opponents talking about hunger and poverty. Who created it? They did,” Tinubu said.

He expressed appreciation to supporters for their role in his emergence as president and appealed to them to renew his mandate in the 2027 general election.

The president promised prosperity, continuity and progress if re-elected, adding that his administration was working with state governors to promote development. He also pointed to regular salary payments as evidence of his government’s efforts.

Tinubu further defended the removal of the petrol subsidy, warning Nigerians against what he described as misleading claims by political opponents. He associated the former subsidy system with corruption, false invoicing and fuel smuggling.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, who also addressed the gathering, highlighted Tinubu’s past political support for prominent northern leaders, including Atiku Abubakar, Nuhu Ribadu and former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani urged APC supporters to remain vigilant, alleging that opposition parties were increasingly using artificial intelligence in their political campaigns.

The rally attracted senior APC officials, government representatives and large crowds of supporters as political activities gathered momentum ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
