Emotional Moments in Kericho as Leaders & Locals Visit Man After Night Attack Left His Friend Dead

An emotional moment was witnessed in Kericho as residents and leaders visited the home of Wilson Rono, popularly known as Mberia, following a night attack that left him injured and his friend dead.

Mberia was attacked alongside his friend, Benard Kiplangat Ngetich, as they walked home from Jambo Kenya in the Kipkelion area at around 9pm. Kiplangat reportedly died in the attack, while Mberia sustained injuries and is now recovering.

A video from Mberia’s home showed him looking shaken and deeply saddened as friends, residents and political leaders gathered to condole with him and wish him a quick recovery.

Those who visited could be seen offering words of comfort as Mberia listened quietly to messages of support following the incident. The attack has sparked condemnation, with friends and political leaders calling for investigations into what happened and the motive behind the assault.

One of Kiplangat’s friends described him as a calm and kind person who was passionate about politics but never used his political views to attack or insult others.

The incident has raised concern among residents, particularly because of claims that the attack could have been politically motivated. Leaders who visited the area included former Kericho Governor Philip K Rono, Hon Chingili and other local leaders. They also visited the Kipkelion CID offices and the scene where Kiplangat was attacked.

After visiting the crime scene, the leaders later went to Mberia’s home to check on his condition and offer support to his family. Calls have also been made to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to move quickly, establish what happened and bring those responsible to justice.

Friends of the deceased have demanded justice for Kiplangat and his family. The incident comes at a time when political activities are becoming more active, with residents urging leaders and their supporters to reject violence and allow people to support their preferred candidates peacefully.
