Mt Kenya Elders Finally Endorses Gachagua’s Ally For Governor Seat In 2027, Reason Revealed

The Kirinyaga Council of Elders has formally endorsed former Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici for the county’s gubernatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 General Election, issuing a stern warning to external political leaders against attempting to influence local succession politics.

Speaking during a consultative leadership seminar at Kiburu in Ndia Constituency on Friday, October 23, 2026, council elders led by Joseph Muriithi Warutere declared that Kirinyaga voters must retain absolute independence in determining who succeeds outgoing Governor Anne Waiguru. The elders rejected political patronage and external candidate endorsements, asserting that county affairs will not be dictated by national figures outside the region.

”Kirinyaga must be allowed to make its own political decisions. We will not accept a situation where leaders from outside the county dictate who our people should elect,” Warutere stated. “This time, we will not sit back and watch others make decisions for Kirinyaga. We have our own people, our own priorities, and our own political interests.”

Council Treasurer Simon Muchiri echoed these sentiments, accusing external political orchestrators of bypassing traditional leadership and attempting to treat local residents as political spectators. Welcoming the council’s declaration, Ngirici affirmed that the county’s leadership direction must remain firmly in the hands of its residents based on track records and actionable development agendas.

In addition to political matters, the elders and Ngirici addressed the rampant spread of illicit alcohol across the county, calling for a coordinated, multi-agency crackdown involving local administration, enforcement officers, and community groups to combat substance abuse and safeguard youth.
