“Kumbe” Kenyans React as Gideon Moi Explains Why He Fell Out with President Ruto

KANU chairman Gideon Moi has explained why his relationship with President William Ruto has taken a different turn, pointing to unfulfilled promises and growing concerns affecting his family.

On Friday, October 23, 2026, Moi spoke during a meeting with political leaders and community representatives at his Kabarak home in Nakuru County. His remarks came amid renewed attention on the strained relationship between the two leaders ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Moi said he had agreed to withdraw from the Baringo senatorial by-election after meeting Ruto in October 2025. According to him, the decision was influenced by assurances that stalled development projects in Baringo County would be completed.

The projects included roads and dams that Moi said were important to residents. He now says the commitments have not been fulfilled as expected, raising questions about the political understanding that led him to abandon his Senate bid.

The former senator also raised concerns about what he described as unnecessary provocation against him and his family. These concerns include the alleged abduction of a key staff member and a dispute involving family property near Eldoret State Lodge.

The land dispute has added another layer to the disagreement, with the Moi family questioning the actions of security officers who allegedly ordered people occupying the property to leave. The allegations have not, by themselves, established that President Ruto personally ordered the action.

The fallout is significant because the two leaders had appeared to put their past political differences aside in 2025. Their meetings raised hopes of cooperation between KANU and the ruling United Democratic Alliance.

However, the latest developments suggest that the relationship has become increasingly difficult, with the approaching 2027 elections adding to the political pressure.

Moi’s remarks also come after Ruto publicly criticised him during a political tour of the Rift Valley last month.

As Kenya’s political alliances continue to shift, the disagreement between Moi and Ruto could influence political discussions in the region.

Do you think Gideon Moi and President Ruto can resolve their differences before the 2027 elections?
