Nairobi Woman Posts Photo of Two Snatchers Who Stole Her Phone Not-knowing It Was Recording
A road safety organisation is appealing to the public and the National Police Service to help identify two men on a motorbike who allegedly snatched a phone from a pedestrian along Ngong Road in the Jamhuri area, after the device captured their faces.
Sikika Road Safety shared footage on Facebook showing the two suspects riding up to the pedestrian, grabbing a Samsung A31 and speeding off.
The group said the stolen phone had recorded their faces clearly enough for them to be recognised.
In its post, the organisation urged Kenyans to share the video widely so the suspects can be arrested, and asked the police to act on the images it had obtained. It noted that a single share could help lead to them.
The clip quickly gained traction, with many Kenyans voicing concern over what they described as growing boldness among motorbike-enabled street criminals in the city.
One user, Fredrick Okumu, said he now stays alert whenever he is at the roadside and does not trust any approaching motorbike.
Another, Adagi Morgan, recalled that two men tried to snatch his phone while he walked along the road between Real Towers and Kenyatta National Hospital, but he managed to slip it into his jacket pocket just in time.
Anyone with information on the identity of the two suspects has been encouraged to contact the National Police Service. The source did not say whether the pedestrian reported the theft, nor whether police had begun investigations.
