Nandom (UWR), Oct. 22, GNA – A total of 54 aspirants have been vetted and cleared to contest various executive positions in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency elections in the Nandom Constituency of the Upper West Region.
The elections, scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026, form part of the party’s nationwide reorganisation and internal electoral process aimed at electing new constituency executives to steer its affairs at the grassroots level.
The positions being contested include Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Communications Officer, Treasurer, Youth Organiser, Women’s Organiser and Zongo Caucus Coordinator.
Mr Martin Neekure Dery, the Deputy Constituency Secretary, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that the vetting exercise was conducted smoothly and peacefully.
Mr Dery, who is seeking re-election, said the constituency elections would strengthen the party’s structures, deepen internal democracy and strategically position the NDC for victory in the 2028 general elections.
He urged aspirants and delegates to conduct themselves with discipline and strictly adhere to the rules and regulations governing the electoral process to ensure a peaceful and successful exercise.
“Let us maintain peace and unity as we go through this internal contest. We must work together to ensure that the election is transparent, credible and successful, and bury our individual differences to maintain peace during and after the elections,” he said.
Mr Dery also appealed to aspirants to campaign with decorum and mutual respect to avoid divisions within the party after the polls.
He further called on delegates to elect competent leaders capable of strengthening the party and helping it secure victory in the 2028 general elections.
The NDC’s internal election process seeks to elect leaders at the branch, constituency, regional and national levels, deepen internal democracy, consolidate party unity and position the party for future electoral success.
